What is Mythika?
Mythika is a dream come true. It is a line of Silver Jewellery, handmade completely by me, Priya Jhavar, in my home studio in Mumbai, India. I like to work with forms that are sculptural and that contain a story within themselves. Quality and storytelling are paramount in my endeavor to bring a smile to the face of anyone who buys from me. Mythika is my way of giving a physical form to a story playing on my mind.

Who am I?
I am Priya Jhavar – previously educationist, currently filmmaker and metalworker. I grew up in Mumbai, India, at a time when there weren’t so many cars in the streets, and when outdoor games were the common way to spend an evening, getting in the mud and connecting with the raw. After graduating with a degree in English Literature, I went to The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and studied Film Direction for 3 years.
After a few years of writing scripts, making documentaries, short films and assisting filmmakers realize their dreams, I began to crave that raw earthy energy of childhood. I missed working with my hands. And one day, just like that (no, really, it’s true!) I opened up an old box of beads and wire and began whipping earrings. Much to my husband’s delight, I began to smile much more, and looked so much more content (his words exactly!). Long story short, I bought a lot of books, watched a whole lot of videos, took a short course, basically jumped headlong into learning a brand new art from scratch.
It’s been a couple of years since then, and now I am confident enough to share what I feel with anyone on the other side of this screen. I learnt (and am still learning), albeit a bit late (just crossed 33!) that success to me singularly means a day when I have worked very hard at something I know I will be very proud of. Mythika has given me a chance to explore a side of me I had forgotten for a long time – a hardworking handygirl – a craftsperson.

…I am dreaming about them. Or watching films. Or eating. Or Reading. Or Swimming. Or Partying.
